Anti-corruption control in Castilian courts in the 17th century: myth or reality?
Summary: Visits were the most used mechanism by the Monarchy to control the operations of the royal court. Historiography has questioned and continues to question today, whether these visitations were effective. This paper attempts to shed some light on this question. Therefore, we have first examined the clear accounts of visitations from an arbitrator, Mr. Gaspar de Pons; followed by the study of several key aspects of the execution and the instructions for the visitations held to the Castilian Chancelleries and Hearings during the 17th century.
