Credit and corruption: the 1643 Council of Finances visita.
Summary: Studying financial institutions through social historys lens has yet to be done in Spanish historiography. Conceived as a continuous inspection, the 1643s Consejo de Haciendas visita has been maintained by four successive judges during more than twenty years. The first judges procedure contrasts with the rest of the visita: he violently attacked and punished two ministers. This article focuses on a Finances prosecutor, Rodrigo Jurado. The concepts of credit and credibility are central to understand the singularity of his trial in corruptions cases.
